When you run a sitewide sale, for example Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or a holiday promotion, update the discount amount on your existing partner promotion instead of creating new codes. Every partner code updates at once, and partner links and codes keep tracking through the sale. This guide walks through the full process.
For example, if your partners normally offer 10% off and you are running 25% off sitewide for Black Friday, you change the parent coupon from 10% to 25% for the sale, then back to 10% when it ends.
Finding Your Parent Coupon
Your partner codes are set up as parent-child coupons in your store. Each partner has their own child code, and all of them sit under one parent coupon, so changing the parent's amount changes every partner code.
In Shopify, go to Discounts and look for the coupon named INFLEKTION followed by the discount percentage, for example INFLEKTION10 for 10% off. BigCommerce works the same way, with partner codes grouped under one promotion.
Note: If your platform does not support parent-child coupons, such as WooCommerce, updating a single coupon will not update your partner codes. Contact our support team ahead of your sale and we will update your partner codes in bulk.
Updating the Parent Coupon in Your Store
- In Shopify, go to Discounts and open the parent coupon, for example INFLEKTION20.
- Under Discount value, change the percentage to the sale value.
- Click Save, then repeat for each parent coupon in your program.
Updating the Promotion in the Inflektion Portal
- Go to Admin › Promotions and click the edit icon next to the promotion.
- Update the Short Description and Long Description to reflect the sale.
- Click Save.
Important: In the Inflektion Portal, update only the Short Description and Long Description. Leave the Display Name as is. It identifies the promotion, so keeping it unchanged lets you roll back to the original settings after the sale.
Note: Make the change when the sale starts rather than creating a separate scheduled discount. Partner codes only live under the parent coupon, so a new discount will not carry them.
If You Have More Than One Promotion
Programs with multiple partner tiers have a parent coupon for each one, for example INFLEKTION10 for standard partners and INFLEKTION15 for VIP partners. Update each parent coupon you want included in the sale. Partners on a tracking-only or No Discount promotion need no change.
Letting Partners Know
Partners promote the number they last saw, so tell them the sale is live and what their code now gives. Use the notification bar in the partner portal or message partners directly, and do the same when you revert.
Partners Who Promote Only a Code
Partners who share their tracking link are unaffected: the store applies the best available discount at checkout and the sale is still tracked to them. Partners who share only their code are different. If the public sale beats their code, their sales cannot be attributed. Update their code to match or slightly beat the sitewide sale so it stays worth using and stays tracked.
Note: If you use a global header bar, make sure its sale messaging does not conflict with what partners are promoting.
Reverting After the Sale
Nothing rolls back on its own. When the sale ends:
- Set the parent coupon amount back to its regular value.
- Inside the Inflektion platform, go to Admin › Promotions and restore the Short Description and Long Description.
- Confirm your default promotion is still the correct one.
Note: Take a screenshot of the promotion settings before the sale so reverting is quick. If you are unsure of the original values, contact our support team before making changes and we will confirm them for you.
